David Smith

Deputy Director - Knowledge and Information Management, Ministry of Housing, Communities and local Government

David is a Deputy Director at the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government, leading on Information Management and Governance, and providing services to other Government Departments.  He is also the Government’s Head of Profession for Knowledge and Information Management Professionals in the Civil Service.  He has worked in a number of Government Departments and the European Parliament, and sits on the Senior Steering Board for the Better Information For Better Government initiative and the National Archives FOI Act s46 Steering Committee.  A former chair of the Association of Departmental Records Officer and the Committee of Departmental Librarians, he currently chairs the Government’s Knowledge and Information Management Leaders and sits on the Information and Records Management Society’s Accreditation Sub-Committee.  He is a Chartered member of CILIP and a Fellow of IRMS.
