C2. Future-Proofing Critical Long-Term Information in the Age of Digital Transformation
1.15pm - 1.45pm

In the pre-digital era, paper and microfilm took care of both short-term and long-term information preservation needs. As they embarked on a digital journey, most organisations lost track of the differences between back-up, archiving, and true long-term preservation as these two objects (management and preservation), got separated.

This case study will identify regulatory and legal drivers for long-term digital information retention and access requirements, along with case studies of organisations using active digital preservation technologies to extract value, mitigate risk and leverage operational data over successive generations of technologies and custodians.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Key differences between archiving and active digital preservation
  • Research findings on the top priorities for long-term information management
